ICCA-GSI Programme
A multi-partnership initiative funded by the Government of Germany, improving the recognition and effectiveness of Indigenous and Community Conserved Areas for biodiversity conservation, sustainable livelihoods, and resilience to climate change. 12 projects across six thematic areas in Kenya.
Lake BogoriaLake Bogoria Ecosystem
Part of the Kenya Lake System World Heritage Site, Lake Bogoria is a biodiversity hotspot with over 370 recorded bird species across six main vegetation zones. The alkaline waters rich in blue-green algae sustain large populations of flamingos.
SICASamburu-Isiolo Conservation Area (SICA)
SICA covers a unique 525 km² ecosystem including the Samburu, Buffalo Springs, and Shaba National Reserves. These reserves support rare species such as the reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, and Somali ostrich, alongside elephants, lions, and cheetahs. The ecosystem hosts over 450 bird species.
Shimoni-VangaShimoni-Vanga Seascape
A vital area of ecological and economic importance featuring coral reefs, mangroves, and diverse marine life. The fringing reef supports artisanal fisheries sustaining over 10,000 fishers and indirectly supporting around 60,000 people.

Shimoni-Vanga Seascape
Coral reefs, mangroves, and diverse marine invertebrates, essential for artisanal fisheries that sustain over 10,000 fishers and indirectly support around 60,000 people. Under GEF 7, SGP supports BMUs to deepen leadership, governance, and social inclusion through hands-on mentorship, good governance policies, gender equality, and community engagement.
