GEF-SGP Kenya Launches Phase 7: USD 1.56 Million for Community Conservation
The 7th Operational Phase of GEF-SGP Kenya has officially launched, marking a significant milestone in community-led conservation. A total of USD 1.56 million has been awarded to 43 civil society organizations to build their capacity as environmental agents of change across Kenya's three critical ecosystems.
Phase 7 focuses on three ecologically-sensitive areas: the Samburu-Isiolo Conservation Area (SICA) in northern Kenya, the Lake Bogoria ecosystem in the Rift Valley, and the Shimoni-Vanga seascape along the southern coast. These areas were selected for their high biodiversity value and the critical role local communities play in their conservation.
The programme targets five key outcomes: biodiversity conservation, sustainable land management, improved livelihoods, multi-stakeholder governance, and knowledge sharing for replication.
